WEST MONROE, La. – After giving away a RAM pickup at its final event of 2017, the team from Pete Carr Pro Rodeo is ready to do it all over again.
The Pete Carr Pro Rodeo Big Truckin’ Series was a big part of the final 13 events of last year’s season. Now the series will be expanded to include all events in 2018. The first is Stampede at the Ike, set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center in West Monroe.
“Contestants who earn money at our rodeos this season will have a chance to win their respective events in the series,” owner Pete Carr said. “The event winners at the end of the series will win a Rtic cooler and will get to draw for another RAM pickup.”
This past October in Henderson, Texas, steer wrestler Matt Reeves became the first truck winner. He was one of nine competitors were part of the drawing for the truck, and he left with the RAM 1500.
“I had never won a truck or a trailer,” said Reeves of Cross Plains, Texas. “It’s pretty cool. How many times can you win a truck for bulldogging?”
He laughed a little, but the sentiment was all there. He is a six-time qualifier to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, but he made sure he put his name in the hat by competing at several Carr rodeos in 2017. Now he’ll try to win another one in 2018.
“Winning the inaugural series was neat,” Reeves said. “Nobody else can say they did that.
“The thing about Pete is that he’s trying to make rodeo better. He tries hard. He wants to have a good rodeo, and he wants to have the contestants there at his rodeos. A truck’s a heck of a deal for us, so sure, we’re going to try to make it to a lot of Pete’s rodeos.”
It’s also easy for contestants who want to keep track of the series. By going to PeteCarrProRodeo.com, they can check out their place in the standings, which will be updated throughout the season.
“I’m pretty excited about this series and what it means for the contestants and those rodeo committees,” Carr said. “We have a lot of great rodeo committees we’re involved with each year, and I think it’s great they will be part of the series.”
