TEXARKANA, Ark. – The Four States Fair and Rodeo is an established showcase the draws folks from across Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
It’s only getting better, and the 2017 edition is a big reason why. This year’s rodeo is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14-Saturday, Sept. 16; it also includes the Texarkana Xtreme Bulls, set for Wednesday, Sept. 13.
“We’ve got some big things that people have been talking about returning this year,” said Lisa Barr, the fair’s vice president. “We’re glad to have Xtreme Bulls, which is growing. We had a lot of people last year who didn’t understand what it was.
“Now they know, and we’ve already had calls about it. It’s created a little bit more of a buzz for this year’s rodeo.”
Another buzzworthy addition to this year’s festivities include entertainer Troy Lerwill, who will have his “Wild Child” persona and motorcycle act – one of the most celebrated in professional rodeo.
“Troy was here two years ago, and he was a big hit,” Barr said. “He brings in people who may not be rodeo fans just to see his act and to see him with the crowd. It’s our hope that he brings those people in and helps them be rodeo fans.
“We’re also having Miss Rodeo America, Lisa Lageschaar, coming to town this year.”
Lageschaar is from nearby Pickton, which just 100 miles southeast of Texarkana. It’s like she’s returning home while also handling her reign as ProRodeo’s primary ambassador.
“She was a former rodeo queen contestant here, so that’s great to have her back,” Barr said. “It’s just a nice addition to everything that we have going on.”
And there’s plenty of action, especially in the arena, thanks to the staff of Pete Carr Pro Rodeo, the rodeo’s producer based in Dallas. From teaming with others for top-flight production to having many of the greatest bucking horses and bulls in the sport, the Carr crew is a big part of the Four States Fair and Rodeo’s success.
“They are all amazing,” Barr said. “They do everything that we need, and they are just above and beyond a typical production company. Every person is part of our fair family, and we’re always thrilled to have them.
“Pete has a great personality to be in his position. He’s got a calming presence around you. We’ve all worked together for so long that he and his crew fit right in and do a great job for us.”
It’s another reason why the Four States Fair and Rodeo is always successful.
